Stump Grinding
Stump grinding is the most common and effective method for eliminating tree strumps, and restoring the landscape.
Once a tree has been removed, the stump remains. Removal of the stump is optional, but usually recommended for aesthetics, safety, and environmental reasons.
Using specialized equipment, the stump and root ball is ground into small wood chips until it is eliminated from vision, and leveled with the ground. CBC employs a variety of stump grinders depending on the size of the former tree and the resulting stump.
The Stump Grinding Process
Assessment
Before starting with stump grinding, we will perform an assessment of the stump and the surrounding area to determine any potential challenges, obstacles, or risks.
Safety Precautions
Stump grinders are powerful, heavy equipment, therefore safety is critical. Our team is trained on how to use the equipment safely and effectively, always wear the proper safety gear, and will make sure the work area is cleared to ensure the safety of bystanders, pets, and landscaping.
The Grinding Process
The stump grinder is set up near the stump, and the cutting wheel is adjusted to the proper height. The grinder turned on, and the cutting mechanism is lowered onto the stump. The cutting wheel rotates and slowly grinds away the stump and roots, while the operator systematically moves the grinder around the remaining stump. Once the roots and stump have been reduced to wood chips and brought below ground level, the grinding process is complete. Once the stump is eliminated, the hole can be filled with soil, and vegetation can be planed on or around the space.
Preventing Regrowth
Certain trees have the ability to send out shoots and sprout regrowth, and removal of the stump via grinding prevent this possibility.
Safety and Accessibility
Stumps are a trip hazard, and may prevent the space from being utilized for other purposes. In places where people walk, or other activities take place, stump grinding is highly recommended.
Pest Infestation Prevention
Termites, ants and other pests are attracted to stumps. Removing the habit reduces the potential for pest infestation.
Aesthetics
Stumps that protrude from the ground are ugly, and restoring the ground is level is much more aesthetically pleasing than an ugly, rotten, pest-infested stump.
Space Utilization
Depending on landscape or development goals, removal of the stump is often necessary to clear the space, and make it more usable.
